Bluetooth uses very large amounts of battery power and it works with an active wireless, which means it is very difficult to switch off when inside the body.
NFC is completely passive, so no wireless signal is transmitted when inside the body. It also requires a much lower power, ensuring that the Sensor lasts for longer.
